Operation Rejuvenation
Again, thanks so much for your contributions and your continued support.
Some smaller projects have been started as part of Operation Rejuvenation - A Master Gardeners' project to restore and repair areas damaged by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The Operation Rejuvenation Committee met in Gulfport on August 7, 2006 to layout the program for Master Gardener projects using the contributions to Operation Rejuvenation funds. A summary of action:
- Make Project Application Forms and requirements available (Click here for Application form and requirement (PDF)). Will start accepting applications from August 14, 2006. A review committee will assess each project and approve funding, based on number of applications and available funds. As additional funds come in, additional approved projects will continue to be supported.
- Each project must submit a report at one month and six months, including documentation of work, impact and cost.
- Some counties can now start on some projects, needing only funds for materials that their Master Gardeners can use for the projects. Other counties will need extensive manpower support and materials and will need several months before conditions will physically allow work to begin. It was decided to work projects in two phases: 1) start on the ones that can be done now, and 2) plan on materials and master gardener manpower for a major work project along the Gulf Coast in October, 2007. Funds for materials would come from Operation Rejuvenation funds and work locations for projects would be established and coordinated by local Master Gardeners. We will use all of the dig-in-the-dirt help we can get from Mississippi and other states to do the actual work.
- We will update this website with information and pictures from completed projects.
People from all over the country have been very generous with contributions for Project Rejuvenation and every effort will made to use these funds wisely and efficiently to bring back much of the horticultural beauty that was damaged by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Thanks to all who have contributed (A list of contributors can be seen here). If you would like to help with this Project, please see the information shown in the brochure below.
