Operation Rejuvenation:
Restoring Master Gardener Landscape Projects
Your help is needed to rebuild Master Gardener teaching/demonstration gardens damaged by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Master Gardeners, under the direction of the Mississippi State University Extension Service, establish and maintain hundreds of these educational gardens throughout Mississippi. The recent hurricanes have damaged or completely destroyed many of these gardens.
The Mississippi MG State Association Board has established a fund to help restore these gardens. Contributions to this fund will be disbursed to the county Master Gardener Association in charge of the landscape project based on these criteria:
The project must:
- be accessible to the public without an admission fee
- create visibility for Master Gardeners
- be educational in impact
- benefit a city, county, or non-profit organization
- fall within the scope of the MSU Extension Service mission
- have sustained damage due to Katrina or Rita
All contributors will receive acknowledgment of their gift and a report on the outcomes of the project.
The association feels it is of utmost importance to support the green industry of Mississippi by requiring, when at all possible, that purchases related to the rebuilding of these gardens be made at Mississippi owned and operated nurseries and garden centers.
Mississippi’s green industry suffered heavy losses due to the hurricanes and needs our support to rebuild its businesses.
