PRCMG regular monthly meeting is at 12:30 pm on the first Friday of the month at the Crosby Arboretum.  Holidays and special events may change this schedule and will be announced in advance.

Crosby Arboretum membership and volunteer events are separate from the PRCMG, but are encouraged and count for PRCMG volunteer hours for the MSU Extension Service. Volunteer meetings are on Saturday with work days scheduled.  Sign up to receive email notice of lectures and programs.

2011 Spring Garden Lecture Series:  Seasons in the Garden

The Lafayette County Master Gardeners and the University of Mississippi Museum present their annual series of noontime lectures for five consecutive Thursdays beginning March 31 through April 28, all starting at noon.

March 31:  Tommy Bennett, co-owner of Bennett-Burks Nursery in Horn Lake, is a well-known expert on organic gardening and good soil management, and will offer encouraging tips for gardeners with every range of experience.

April 7:  Jesse Howley, manager of grounds horticulture, Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis, TN, will share his knowledge of how to capture the beauty of springtime in our own gardens.

April 14:  Matthew Copp, landscape architect at Hill Country Landscaping of Oxford, will suggest ways to make being outdoors in the summertime more enjoyable by creating outdoor rooms using hardscape with plants.

April 21:  Dr. Menmeng Gu, MSU Assistant Professor of Ornamental Horticulture, will explore the topic of fall gardening and how to have spectacular results in those other seasons.

April 28:  Ashley Jordan Daniels, owner of The Twisted Twig of Oxford, will wind up the series by demonstrating her special “twist” on decorating year round using flowers and found objects.

Though some refreshments will be available, you’re welcome to bring a bag lunch.

The UM Museum is located at the corner of University Avenue and 5^th Street with ample free parking.

The Tippah County Master Gardeners and Ripley Garden Club members visited Tippah County Growers Nursery.  Mr. Jim Wohlfarth, owner, explained the operation of the business from planing seedlings, nurturing growing plants to marketing and sales to commercial outlets.

Working in the Flower Beds at the Extension Office.    From an ugly ducking to a beautiful swan!  The front beds were transferred and were were very happy to see the transformation.

Master Gardener Volunteers Decorating and the Historic Museum for Christmas.  I wonder who was Naughty or Nice?

Master Gardeners working with the NRCS on a Field Day at the Ripley Middle School.   Over 150 students get hands on learning with potting plants with this Conservation Field Day.

 

 

The Master Gardeners help with the landscaping of the New Ripley Save a Life - Pregnancy Testing Center.   Not only do they share in giving life to plants,  they help give Life to the young ladies who come their in doubt not knowing what choice they are going to make when they pull up, but they have a little seed planted on the outside, that helps them when they get inside with what they have on the inside.
